We demand bold, transformative solutions to create an economy and democracy that work for all of us, no matter our race or where we’re from. With actions across the United States— we are showing Congress that there isn’t time to waste.
We are lifting up care work led by Black, Latina, AAPI, and Indigenous women and immigrants with a clear demand for Congress to enact the White House’s plan for an investment in home care jobs through increased funding for Medicaid home and community-based services.
We Are Demanding
Jobs
It’s time to make sure that all of us have the chance to join a union, no matter where we work. The millions of needed home care jobs, jobs created in a just transition to a green economy, and essential infrastructure jobs must all be good union jobs that pay at least $15/hr, with paid time off and healthcare coverage. No more poverty-wage jobs from giant corporations like McDonald’s or the airlines, no more blank checks for corporations that pollute our communities, no more sacrificing us and our families for shareholder profits. It’s time to write new rules for workers. We demand a seat at the table.
Care
It’s time to lift up the Black, Latina, Asian, Indigenous, and immigrant women who do the majority of home care work in our country. Women of all races do 90 percent of care work — and we demand home care jobs be good union jobs. Congress must pass a bold plan to invest in home and community-based services, creating and improving more than a million new home care jobs by providing funding for higher wages and making home services affordable and accessible to every family. It’s what we need for our communities, for our aging parents and grandparents, and for our neighbors and family members with disabilities. Care is essential.
Justice
It’s time to dismantle structural racism and to build an inclusive, equitable economy and democracy so families of every race can thrive. We demand a path to citizenship for immigrants who call this country home. We demand bold, immediate action on climate change to secure a safe, healthy world for our children. We demand government officials who we elected hold corporations accountable for contributing to our communities rather than exploiting us for profits. We demand comprehensive Federal voting rights legislation to beat back voter purges and other efforts to disenfranchise Black voters and other voters of color. We demand communities of color and immigrant communities be centered in our recovery from the pandemic.
